On the morning of May 26th, in Nha Trang City, Institute for Social Development Studies (ISDS) in collaboration with Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Health held a workshop to kick off the Project on strengthening grassroots’ capacity to prepare for the Covid-19 pandemic and other health emergencies in Vietnam. Mr. Dinh Van Thieu - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee attended.

The Project on strengthening Grassroots Capacity to Prepare for the Covid-19 pandemic and other health Emergencies in Vietnam will be implemented in 27 communes and wards of 3 provinces: Vinh Phuc, Khanh Hoa, and Long An provinces, within 3 years (from January 2022 to the end of December 2024). The objective of the Project is to improve inter-sectoral coordination capacity in case management and infection prevention and control in the community; improve capacity of commune health stations on cross-infection control and provision of essential health care services; improve people's knowledge, attitudes and practices (especially vulnerable groups) in infection prevention, monitoring, and health care at home; reduce the impact of Covid-19 on those most affected in vulnerable groups.
Particularly in Khanh Hoa, the project will be implemented in the following localities: Ninh An; Ninh Phu; Ninh Binh (Ninh Hoa town); Suoi Tan; Cam Duc; Cam An Nam (Cam Lam district); Van Thang; Vinh Truong; Vinh Phuoc (Nha Trang City). The project is funded by the Government of Japan through the Japan Social Development Fund and entrusted to the World Bank for management with a non-refundable grant of USD 2,750,000.
Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Dinh Van Thieu thanked the Government of Japan, the Ministry of Health, and the World Bank for choosing Khanh Hoa as the locality to implement the project, contributing to helping the province to build models, standard and appropriate operational solutions to implement the prevention and control of Covid-19 epidemic and other health emergencies... At the same time, he proposed that the Department of Health and localities coordinate with other units, Relevant organizations implement this project in accordance with the actual situation, ensuring the achievement of the set objectives.

According to ISDS, in the coming time, the unit will develop guiding documents for the implementation of the Project on Strengthening the grassroots' capacity to prepare for the Covid-19 pandemic and other health emergencies suitable to the actual situation of each locality; training related contents for staff at grassroots level; review, support equipment, upgrade infrastructure for medical stations of selected localities... After successfully organizing the project, the unit will consider replicating this model to other localities in the whole country.
