The district borders Van Ninh District to the North, Nha Trang City and Dien Khanh, Khanh Vinh Districts to the South, Dak Lak Province to the West, and the sea to the East. The total area of the district is 1,196 km2, with a total population of 232,541, and a density of 189 persons/ km2. The people live mainly on agriculture, fisheries, salt-making, handicrafts and forestry. Ninh Hoa Town is the center of the district, located at the junction of National Highway No.1 and National Route No.26 leading to Buon Ma Thuot City. The town is 33km from Nha Trang, 27km from Van Gia, and 162km from Buon Ma Thuot. Ninh Hoa has become am important bridging linking the Western Highlands and the plains of Southern Central Vietnam.
Ninh Hoa is known for its many place names such as Da Ban base, Heo Mount base, Can Vuong base at Hon Khoi - Dam Van, the heroic communes of Ninh An and Ninh Tho; many beautiful sites can also be found here and have been put into play to serve enhance the people’s living standards, such as Doc Let Beach, Ba Ho Stream, Da Ban Reservoir, Truong Xuan Hot Spring, Bay Waterfalls (Ea - Krông- ru), Da Chet Stream, the eco-tourist site of Thi Island, Hoa Lan Stream, Lady Vu's Tomb...
The main minerals that can be exploited in Ninh Hoa are kaolin, clay for making brick, literate, granite for producing construction materials; the great reserve of Truong Xuan Hot mineral Spring is to be exploited through a joint-venture with foreign partners.
Ninh Thuy IZ in Ninh Hoa has received the Government’s approval for investment with a capital of about VND 250 billion on an area of 206.4 ha.
The trans-Viet railway passes through the district via Hoa Huynh, Ninh Hoa, Phong Thach, and Ninh Ich stations.
