On the afternoon of May 13th, Mr. Tran Phong, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Secretary of the Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee had a meeting and disscussion with a high-level delegation from Vientiane (Lao People's Democratic Republic) led by Mr. Athsaphangthong Siphandone, Member of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, Secretary of the Vientiane City Party Committee, and Chairman of the Vientiane City People's Council. Also present at the meeting were: Mr/Ms Thanongxay Khoutphaythoun, Alternate Member of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and Vice Chairman of the Vientiane City People's Council; Phokham Xayyasone, Member of the Standing Committee of the Vientiane City Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Vientiane City Government Committee; Ms. Pham Thi Xuan Trang, Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Council; Mr. Nguyen Thanh Ha, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; and leaders of departments, agencies, and organizations of Khanh Hoa province and Vientiane City.

Speaking at the meeting, the Secretary of the Vientiane City Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Vientiane Capital, Athsaphangthong Siphandone thanked the leaders of Khanh Hoa province for their warm welcome. He also affirmed that this visit demonstrates Vientiane Capital's determination to continue fostering the special friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam in general; and reflects the sentiments of the Party Committee, government, and people of Vientiane Capital towards the Party Committee, government, and people of Khanh Hoa province in particular

The Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Vientiane Capital, Athsaphangthong Siphandone, also shared some of the socio-economic development achievements of the locality, especially after the operation of the new local government model. Currently, Vientiane Capital is focusing all resources to effectively implement the goals set forth in the 12th National Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, with the determination to achieve a GRDP growth rate of 8% or higher in 2026.

Mr. Athsaphangthong Siphandone expressed his desire that in the future, the two localities would continue to strengthen exchanges and share experiences in areas of cooperation; promote cooperation in tourism development; research and propose opening routes from Vientiane to Khanh Hoa to boost tourism and trade; share experiences and provide technical support in the breeding, processing, and export of swiftlet nests; strengthen cooperation and promote investment in areas where both sides have advantages…

On behalf of Khanh Hoa province, Provincial Party Secretary Tran Phong emphasized that, in its development process, Khanh Hoa province has always attached great importance to foreign relations and international integration, especially the traditional friendship and close ties with localities in Laos, including the capital Vientiane.

Provincial Party Secretary Tran Phong stated that since signing the Memorandum of Cooperation for the period 2024-2028 on April 11, 2024, Khanh Hoa province and Vientiane Capital have implemented several initial activities including the exchange of delegations, strengthening exchanges and coordination in a number of fields. To further enhance cooperation results, Khanh Hoa province hopes to continue receiving the attention and close cooperation of Vientiane Capital leaders to further strengthen and expand cooperative relations between the two localities. This includes further strengthening exchanges, professional exchanges, sharing experiences between levels and sectors, people-to-people exchanges, and exploring the expansion of practical and effective economic cooperation activities. Actively support and facilitate businesses in carrying out their operations and implementing investment projects in other sectors such as tourism, agriculture, cultivation, farming, and other industries that match the strengths of each locality.

Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Tran Phong also expressed his wish for the two localities to coordinate well in preparing for important commemorative activities in 2027, especially the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Laos (1962-2027) and the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Vietnam and Laos (1977-2027), in order to recall the fine traditions and strengthen cultural and people-to-people exchanges between Khanh Hoa province and Vientiane capital.
