The Chairman of the Khanh Hoa provincial People's Committee has just signed a decision approving the Project on Management, Protection and Promotion of the Value of the Intangible Cultural Heritage "Cham Pottery Making Art" for the period 2025-2028 and the next few years.

According to the plan, by 2026, the province will remove the Cham pottery art intangible cultural heritage from the list of endangered heritage requiring protection; complete the research, collection, compilation of documents and textbooks, and publication of materials to serve the promotion and transmission of the craft. Four training courses, from basic to advanced levels, will be organized for approximately 140 students, and 100% of the artisans teaching the craft will be trained to improve their skills. Completing the planning of sourcing of raw materials, fuel, and locations for pottery firing. The goal is to standardize 100% of the traditional pottery techniques and processes of Bau Truc pottery, aiming to protect the knowledge, techniques, and methods of traditional pottery making (material selection, crafting, firing, coloring, etc.) associated with the cultural values and customs of the community. Simultaneously, it ensures suitable working conditions for artisans, families, and households making porttery to pratice this heritage and minimizes the impact of technological interference in the production process.
By 2027, the province will organize two training courses, from basic to advanced levels, for approximately 200 students, and 100% of the artisans teaching pottery will be improved their skills and perfected to teach pottery to the community. The goal is for 50% of artisans and practitioners of pottery to be awarded the titles of Outstanding Artisan or People's Artisan. Establish quality product standards, register the trademark "Cham Pottery" for Bau Truc Cham pottery products, and establish a geographical indication for Cham pottery products. Complete the planning for the protection of the cultural space of Bau Truc pottery village and the planning for a community-based tourism development model for the Bau Truc pottery craft village. Build and upgrade infrastructure and plant trees to improve the environment and create a beautiful landscape for the Bau Truc pottery village.
During the period 2028-2030 and next few years, the province aims to inscribe Cham pottery art as an intangible cultural heritage representing of humanity; striving to achieve the following goals: 80-100% of resorts and hotels in Khanh Hoa province will display and introduce Bau Truc Cham pottery; 50-70% of restaurants will use Bau Truc pottery products (household pottery, art pottery); and 100% of traditional Cham pottery products will be returned to the Cham community for use in daily life and in rituals and festivals. Increase the economic proportion of traditional crafts and craft villages in the economic structure of Bau Truc village to 30% by 2028 and 50% by 2030. After 2030, creating jobs for over 1,000 workers specializing in pottery making, with a target of 70-80% of the workforce to be trained. Organize competitions for creating and designing Bau Truc Cham pottery products every two years (developing new products while preserving the village's identity and meeting market demands), aiming to enhance the economic and cultural value of the pottery products. The province organizes the Cham Pottery Art Festival every two years, and the national Cham Pottery Art Festival every five years. 100% of the rituals and folk performance forms related to Bau Truc pottery art are restored, linked to the development of craft village tourism. 100% of the education system in Ninh Phuoc commune has educational programs on the value of Cham pottery art. 100% of artisans and those who have contributed to protecting, preserving, and teaching Cham pottery art are honored and receive benefits according to regulations.
To achieve the above objectives, the province will implement projects on: teaching pottery art; researching and documenting pottery art; developing the market and enhancing the economic value of pottery making; protecting the cultural space of Bau Truc pottery village; providing policy and financial support for Cham pottery art…
