Hon Ba Peak
Ho Ba is a nature reserve in Khanh Hoa Province, located on a high position, over 1500m over sea level, with a cool climate all year. It is called the second Dalat of the central; humidity in the year is high because of rain regularly throughout the year, so Hon Ba scenery is beautiful. Hon Ba was discovered by Dr. Alexandre Yersin on September 22nd 1863. From 1915, he built the research basic at 1,500 m elevation atop the Hon Ba. This place made many experimental programs; cultivation and use of medicinal plants (today still have a few traces). In which, there is Cinchona ledgeriana which are imported from South America. To commemorate Dr. Yersin, the province has restored his house on the old platform at the top of Hon Ba. Forest flora in Hon Ba demonstrates clearly the diversity. According to statistic number, there are about 592 vascular higher plant species, belonging to 401 genera and 120 families, including 43 rare species listed in the Vietnam’s Red Data Book.
