On the afternoon of October 7th, the Ministry of Transport held an online conference with localities to announce the master plan on development of Vietnam's seaport system for the period of 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050. At the Khanh Hoa bridge point, Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and leaders of related departments and agencies attended the conference.

At the conference, the Ministry of Transport announced Decision No.1579/QD-TTg dated September 22nd 2021 of the Prime Minister approving the master plan on development of Vietnam's seaport system for the period of 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050. According to the master plan, by 2030, Vietnam's seaport system will meet the demand for import and export of goods, trade between regions and areas throughout the country and transshipment of goods, and transit for countries in the region as well as domestic and international passenger transportation needs; the seaport system can handle goods from 1,140 to 1,423 million tons (of which container cargo is from 38 to 47 million TEU); passengers from 10.1 to 10.3 million. Prioritize the development of infrastructure in the international gateway ports of Lach Huyen (Hai Phong), Cai Mep (Ba Ria - Vung Tau); study appropriate mechanisms and policies for the step-by-step development of the international transshipment port at Van Phong (Khanh Hoa); planning the development orientation of Tran De port (Soc Trang); large-scale seaports serving socio-economic development of the whole country or inter-region; international passenger ports associated with tourism development motivation regions; large-scale ports serving economic and industrial zones; ports in island districts to serve socio-economic development associated with national defense and security and sea and islands’ sovereignty.
Vietnam's seaport system in the period 2021 - 2030 will be divided into 5 groups, in which, seaport group No. 1 includes 5 seaports: Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh and Ninh Binh with a total volume of cargo by 2030 will reach from 305 to 367 million tons (container cargo from 11 to 15 million TEU); passengers from 162,000 to 164,000 turns. Seaport group 2 includes 6 seaports: Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue with the total of cargo through 2030 reaching from 172 to 255 million tons (container goods from 0.6 to 1 million TEUs); passengers from 202,000 to 204,000 turns. Seaport group 3 includes 8 seaports: Da Nang (including Hoang Sa island district), Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa (including Truong Sa island district), Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan with the total of goods by 2030 reaching from 138 to 181 million tons (container goods from 1.8 to 2.5 million TEU); passengers from 1.9 million to 2 million. Group 4 seaport includes 5 seaports: Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Binh Duong and Long An with the total of cargo through 2030 reaching from 461 to 540 million tons (container cargo from 24 to 28 million TEU); passengers from 1.7 million to 1.8 million. Seaport group No. 5 includes 12 seaports: Can Tho, Dong Thap, Tien Giang, Vinh Long, Ben Tre, An Giang, Hau Giang, Soc Trang, Tra Vinh, Ca Mau, Bac Lieu and Kien Giang with a total volume of cargo by 2030 will reach from 64 to 80 million tons (container goods from 0.6 to 0.8 million TEU); passengers from 6.1 to 6.2 million turns...
Particularly in Khanh Hoa, the seaport system is planned with the following 4 areas: The North of Van Phong wharf area serving inter-regional socio-economic development; develop into an international transshipment port; there are container port, general and international passenger ports. The South of Van Phong area directly serves Van Phong Economic Zone and liquid/gas transport, bulk cargo; there is a general terminal, bulk cargo, liquid/gas cargo. Nha Trang port area serves international passenger terminals and marina; is the focal point of international sea tourism (develop in accordance with the needs and ensure the promotion of the value of Nha Trang Bay). Cam Ranh port area serves the socio-economic development of the province and the Central Highlands region; there are general port, container, bulk, liquid/gas cargo, passenger port and ports serving national defense and security. The port of Truong Sa district serves the socio-economic development of the island district in combination with the performance of national defense and security tasks. The anchorage areas for conveying, avoiding and sheltering from storms are located in Van Phong, Nha Trang, Cam Ranh and some islands in Truong Sa district...
